New York Web Design and Development Firm Offers Tips on Building a Reader-Friendly Site
Leading Manhattan website design expert explains how to create a website that puts readers first.
When Internet users come across a well-designed website that appears to have an abundance of quality content, they are likely to spend time on that website and come back for more, says Peter Crisafi, Vice President of dzine it, Inc., a leading Manhattan website development and website design firm with clients from around the world. It takes hard work, however, to create content that captures a readers attention. Unfortunately, most websites fall short and visitors often click away within seconds the kiss of death for website owners.
Crisafi says that most websites aren't reader-friendly and are, in fact, just the opposite, providing a lousy reader experience. One of the ways to make a website more reader-friendly, he explains, is by eliminating clutter.
Web pages that are busy and overcrowded make it difficult for visitors to find what they're looking for, says Crisafi. A website should feature content that is arranged in a neat and orderly fashion.
In addition, he suggests installing a sitemap and an internal search box to improve the users experience.
Other ways to improve readability include keeping content clear and concise, and avoiding tiny font sizes, says Crisafi. Readers want information as fast as possible and they are likely to shun large blocks of text. The text that is featured, on the other hand, should be designed using a font size that is large enough for users to read.
Finally, Crisafi warns of using too much bold type and highlighting.
A website design should always use bold type and highlight in moderation, and only to emphasize certain words, sentences or paragraphs, says Crisafi.
